About STRIDE

Welcome to STRIDE Adaptive Sports!

STRIDE Adaptive Sports is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provided over 14,000 adaptive sport and recreation lessons in 2023-24 to individuals with disabilities, with a focus on youth and Wounded Warriors.

STRIDE utilizes over 250 skilled volunteer sport instructors plus over 100 non-skilled volunteers for events, fundraising and maintenance projects; serves over 2000 families; and offers programs in more than 18 different sports at 26 regional locations in the Northeastern US.

With a focus on individual lifetime sports, our programs use specialized equipment or teaching aids for successful participation to “level the playing field” for all.

STRIDE is a partner member of Move United  and Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA/AASI); a US Paralympic Sport Club; and a training club for New York Special Olympics. STRIDE Adaptive Sports is recognized as one of the leading adaptive sport programs in the Northeastern United States.

Our Mission

To educate and empower individuals with disabilities in life-changing sport and recreation programs to sustain healthy, active and fun lifestyles.

Our Vision

To build a community with equal opportunity and access for sport and recreational activities. No one should be left behind because of a disability! STRIDE believes it is possible to remove boundaries, fulfill dreams, enhance self-esteem, and empower youth with disabilities through participation in sport and recreational activities.

Our Values

Create opportunities and provide outlets for individuals with disabilities to make friends, increase self-esteem, develop life skills, realize their potential and become productive members of society.

Educate volunteers, families and communities on the opportunities that exist for individuals with disabilities.

Partner with leading professionals, educational institutions, agencies and communities in order to create top-tier recreational programs for individuals with disabilities.

Lead in the area of adaptive sports by providing opportunities for STRIDE participation that are safe and fun and help achieve personal goals.

Engage a committed team of volunteers, parents, family, friends and community members in our services and mission.

Challenge the status quo by removing boundaries and breaking down barriers of ignorance and attitude that can block the path of independence for individuals who have disabilities.
