About Us
Oceans of Hope Foundation is a non-profit organization established to offer individuals with limited mobility and spinal cord injuries the opportunity to get into the ocean water and experience the joy of riding the ocean wave.
Our Story
On May 1st 2003 Oceans of Hope co-founder, Danny Paltjon, sustained a serious spinal cord injury while playing in a Men’s softball game. Previously an eager outdoorsman and athlete, he was unprepared to face his “new life” limited to a wheelchair. Danny sought to recapture his adventurous spirit and realized that anything is possible with determination and the help of others.
One of the experiences he missed was spending the day on the beach with his family, swimming in the water, and riding the ocean waves.
He teamed up with avid surfer. Chris Sharpe, to gain his expertise and assistance in creating an adaptive surfing program. Together they took their love for the waves and formed the Oceans of Hope Foundation.
