Description
Our Mission
Our mission is to build lasting confidence and fulfillment through exposure and professional training in recreational and competitive water and snow skiing to both children, adults and veterans with disabilities.
Our Vision
Our objective is to improve the lives of our participants by providing them with safe, challenging and memorable adaptive recreation programs.
LOF History
In 1992, former national champion waterski jumper Joel Zeisler received a call from a Vietnam veteran requesting to schedule waterski lessons. Zeisler happily agreed, eager to help a veteran get back into a sport he loved prior to his service.
At the end of the conversation, the veteran let Joel in on a detail he's left out: a rocket-propelled grenade claimed his vision in the war, leaving him completely blind. With the help of Joel, this veteran was not able to ski independently again, but continued on to win gold medals at the World and US Disabled Waterski Competitions.
Here, LOF gained its roots, and a former waterski champion continues to pay it forward to countless individuals who never dreamed of waterskiing. LOF has since expanded to include skiers of all ages and abilities.
Our Programs
Are free of charge for individuals with disabilities or special needs, but a fully refundable deposit is required to secure your registration. You will NOT be considered registered until we have received ALL of the following: Skier Registration Form (submitted annually unless information has changed) Refundable security deposit (submitted before each event – see "Required Seasonal Forms" tab)
Note: On the day of the event an Insurance Waiver form will be handed to you to complete and sign. This is only required once in a season. More information about this in "Required Seasonal Forms" section.
CANCELLATIONS: If it is necessary to cancel your scheduled event, we require that you give at least 24 hours' notice, however, we understand that unforeseen things can happen. Adaptive Ski Instruction is in high demand and your early cancellation can give another person an opportunity to ski and also can impact our volunteer needs.
Open event registration applies to individual skiers signing up for Open Events, Freedom Splash, Veterans Events, Soaring with the Eagles, and Snow Ski clinics. Please email us ([email protected]) to be added to our participant list for more information about our upcoming open clinics. Day-of registration is not permitted.
