Our Mission
ACG creates accessible, affordable, and transformational climbing opportunities for people with disabilities.
" The Adaptive Climbing Group fosters an inclusive community for individuals with disabilities to engage in the sport of climbing by leveraging their existing abilities. The idea of this organization was inspired by Kareemah Batts' personal experience after climbing post-amputation due to cancer. The first "NYC Adaptive Climbing Clinic" was held in Brooklyn, NY on March 15, 2012, where 38 disabled individuals were introduced to climbing over a period of two days. This event was considered the largest climbing experience of its kind at that time." Adaptive Climbing Group follows a full equity model with free, discounted and donation based programming indoors and outdoors.
Since 2012 the Adaptive Climbing Group has helped create processes for paraclimbing integration in climbing gyms, outdoors, and competition. Now "adaptive climbing groups" are a staple part of paraclimbing across the United States and around the world. As we have and continue to grow our national organization, we strive to continue to push the needle in access.
We have assisted many people, companies and non profits in what we call " On and Off the Wall" disability etiquette. We produced the only training camo for paraclimber competitors since 2017. And we are the only organization that is fully local volunteer-commuity run, disability and person of color led in each location across the United States
