Description

This is a pre-race training day for Team Blue participants for the Dragon Boat Race for Literacy 2024

SCHEDULE & LOCATION

Practice will run as assigned by the event hosts. Exact time frame will be communicated as far in advance as possible, but likely the week of the event.

SPORT

Dragon Boat racing is a fun team-oriented activity where teammates work to paddle in unison with one another to propel the boat ahead in the water faster than their opponents. Dragon boat races feature an exhilarating combination of premier sports competition in concert with an entertainment showcase for corporations, community organizations, and families. This is your opportunity to be at the forefront of representing people with disabilities and their supporters.

All skill levels are welcome. We are always looking for new team members! Participants in dragon boat must be 18 years of age with a primary physical disability. They must be able to self-transfer or transfer with minimal assistance up or down by 12+ inches. Participants should be comfortable in close confines with other participants in narrow seating. Swimming skills are recommended. PFD’s (personal floatation devices) must be worn at all times while on the dock and in the boat.

ITEMS TO BRING

Please wear moisture wicking and comfortable clothing, closed toe shoes and bring rain gear and layers in case of inclement weather. Participants are recommended to bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and hat for practice. Practices are entirely outside, so dress appropriately.

IMPORTANT NOTES

**Please Note - Participants must be able to follow directions and effectively communicate with or without assistance provided by themselves to be eligible for Adaptive Adventures programs.

Restrooms are available, but not in close proximity, so please plan accordingly.
