Summary
Customized program for Craig Hospital Inpatient and Outpatients through the Department of Recreational Therapy
**Private Event - Registration Open to Craig Hospital Patients and Volunteers ONLY**
Short Description:
Participants meet with the Craig Hospital CTRS and Adaptive Adventures staff individually to assess safety, cycling abilities, endurance level, and proper fitting of equipment (upright, tandem, trike, or handcycle).
Small group treatment sessions will include discussions on the benefits of exercise, motivational techniques (i.e. charting progress in time, distance, and/or terrain), training and practice on cycling skills, traffic etiquette, safety, and dealing with emergencies or mechanical failures. Cycling groups will consist of learning about and engaging in opportunities in the home communities.
Goal:
The goal of the cycling program is for each participant to be at a functionally independent level for participation in community cycling.
Schedule:
3:00 PM Arrival Time & Setup *Volunteers & Staff Only
4:00 PM Program Start - First Group arrival
5:00 PM Program Start - Second Group Arrival
6:30 PM Breakdown/Food - Provided by Craig Hospital
Who Can Attend?
This program is in partnership with the Craig Hospital Recreation Therapy department and is a closed event. Participants must register through Craig Hospital to participate. Volunteers and buddy riders are welcomed.
What Can I Expect?
We need support in equipment setup, buddy riders, equipment breakdown, and fittings.
How Should I Dress & Things to bring?: Comfortable moisture wicking clothing, closed toes shoes, water bottle, suncreen, and a hat.
