We are getting excited for this coming Monday and our PPH Area Winter Games at Hermon Mountain!

(Please note that the Speedskating event has been cancelled this year, those signed up are still eligible for State Winter Games)

The 2025 PPH Area Winter Games will be held at Hermon Mountain and Sawyer Arena for school age and adult athletes. This will be a one day event this year. Qualifying scores required for all athletes, in all events, except Alpine. Award ribbons will be provided on site. We will be having a banquet with dinner and dance at the Hilton Garden Inn Bangor. An Area Athlete Leadership Award will be announced this year at the banquet. See below for more information on athlete event registration, banquet tickets, lodging and to nominate an athlete for the Athlete Leadership Award. Lots to look forward to!

Monday 2/10:
9:00-9:30 School Team Registration
9:00-11:30 Speedskating- All ages at Sawyer Area
10:00-12:00 School Age- Snowshoe & Alpine events at Hermon
11:45-12:15 Adult Team Registration (Do not arrive prior to 11:45!)
12:15 Opening Ceremonies
12:30- 3:30 Adult Age- Snowshoe, Nordic, & Alpine events at Hermon
Banquet: Monday 2/10 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Bangor. Dinner 6:00-7:30pm, Dance till 9pm.
Events Offered:
Snowshoe: 25M, 50M, 100M (choose up to two races) Qualifying scores required for ALL (hopefully more snow is on the way! We will accept Snowshoe times on grass if needed)
Alpine: Ski or Snowboard Slalom (please indicate athlete Level: 1-Beginner, 2-Novice, 3-Intermediate, 4-Advanced), Dual Ski
Nordic: 100M, 500M, 1K (choose up to two) Qualifying scores required (depending on snow availability)
Speedskating: Choose two of the shorter races: 25M, 25M Sit Skate, 50M, 50M Sit Skate or Choose up to three of the longer races: 100M, 300M, 500M, 1000M Qualifying scores are required for Speedskating.

Banquet & Lodging:
We are thrilled to be back at the Hilton Garden Inn for our banquet this year!
Date & Time: 2/10, Dinner at 6:00-7:30pm, Dance 7:30 till 9pm with DJ Jeff!
Banquet Tickets: Tickets are $20 per person.
Dinner will be a pasta bar, salad, breadsticks and dessert.
Purchase banquet tickets online here by 1/24. We need to provide an accurate head count by 1/24, tickets will not be available at the door. Tickets that have been reserved and paid for will be given to HODs at Winter Games.
Lodging: Overnight 2/10-2/11 at the Hilton Garden Inn Bangor. We are asking teams to book and pay for this directly with the Hilton by 1/24.
Area Athlete Leadership Award:
A Special Olympics Area Athlete Leadership Award recipient would exemplify tenacity, sportsmanship, teamwork, courage and demonstrate athletic skill in practice and competition. They act as a role model for other Special Olympics athletes and have positively impacted their team by being a resource, a motivator, and encourager. They lead by example and inspire those around them. They have a commitment to Special Olympics and believe in all abilities and possibilities.
Click here to nominate an athlete by describing how this athlete has displayed the above traits and why he or she should receive this award. This Leadership Award will be presented at the banquet. The recipient will receive a trophy and become the torch bearer for the next year. Nominations due by 1/24.

Required Paperwork:
Reminder: Complete ALL required forms below for Athletes, Coaches, Volunteers & Partners prior to the event if you have not already done so previously.
ATHLETE REGISTRATION PAPERWORK: SOME announced that effective 10/11/24 there is a new athlete registration packet. This packet no longer requires a physician signature for participation. This can be completed online (preferred) or in paper form and emailed to sarahp@somaine.org. Please keep a copy for your records! After January 1, 2025 the old athlete forms will no longer be accepted. All athletes wishing to participate in this event will be required to complete the new packet. The packet is good for one year and just a renewal signature is required in subsequent years if there has been no change to athlete history.
