Description

Description

Sled hockey is an action-packed sport that takes place on the ice. It follows most of the typical ice hockey rules, except players use specially designed sleds that sit on top of two hockey skate blades, and each player has two sticks that they can use to propel themselves across the ice.

Through a partnership with Oakland Ice Center, BORP offers the only ongoing competitive sled hockey program in Northern California. BORP’s team, the Sharks, plays against other teams in the Pacific Division and competes annually in the USA Hockey – Disabled Hockey Festival.

Children and youth with any type of lower limb disability are encouraged to come to practices and try this exciting sport. The program is mixed gender and serves ages 7 through 18.

Like BORP’s other sports programs, sled hockey offers young players the chance to make friends, work with supportive adult coaches, learn new skills, build confidence, and have a lot of fun.
