Description: Carly’s presentation will focus on the tension that can exist between the drive for adaptation and the need for acceptance as athletes move through challenging circumstances that are outside of their control, illustrated by personal stories from myself and my athletes. The thesis is that athletes benefit from coaching that helps them balance the focus on continual adaptation and improvement with the ability to accept that we’re not in complete control of that, thus avoiding the pitfalls that can come when we refuse to accept challenging circumstances.
Speaker Bio: Carly Wynn of Carly Outside (The Box) is an independent-minded, adventure-seeking athlete, coach, and an OG-digital nomad. Following her years of D1 NCAA racing for Dartmouth College, she started Carly Outside in 2015 with the goal of helping other runners and skiers thrive and sharing her adventures while she traveled and ski raced as a domestic pro. She retired from professional racing in 2018, shifted her full time focus to coaching: Outside Endurance.
In her coaching, she strive to emphasize the simple and powerful foundations of training that so often get overlooked. The goal of training is to adapt. Bodies require stress and recovery in order to get stronger. If we know how to listen, our bodies will tell us how to fine tune that stress (training,) and the necessary recovery.

This offering is part of our virtual educational series which expands opportunities for learning beyond our in-person conferences, symposiums, and clinics.
