Description
A laboratory is a place for exploration, for experiment, for innovation. PD Movement Lab (PDML) is for all those things. Begun in 2006 by Pamela Quinn for the Brooklyn Parkinson's Group, the PDML has been at the forefront of designing new approaches to the many day-to-day physical challenges faced by people with Parkinson's. Blending her background in dance training with her personal experience as a Parkinson's patient, Quinn invents tools that allows people living with Parkinson's to rediscover mobility and greater physical freedom.
Within PDML classes, many elements of dance–especially rhythm and the use of imagery–are combined to create strategies to navigate common PD symptoms and to enable moving in all kinds of real-life situations: elevators, crowds, at home and outside. Class focuses on function and physical expression, all the while striving to help the students live life to the fullest extent possible. It's challenging, creative, serious, fun.
Classes are offered free of charge to persons with PD and their accompanying care partners.
Advanced registration for in-person attendance is encouraged for each individual, including care partners. Drop-in participation will be accommodated when possible. First-time participants should contact us here or call (718) 218-3373 to sign up.
