Special Olympics Maine Equestrian Committee Announces
Nominations Are Now Being Accepted for
The Fourth Annual Brian Reed Volunteer of the Year Award

Brian Reed was a local horseman who volunteered his time for many years at the Special Olympics Maine Equestrian Competition, facilitating the Working Trail competition. Known for his cowboy hat and “can-do attitude,” Brian was a friend to everyone he met. Always quick to lend a hand or offer a word of encouragement, those who had the pleasure of meeting him will remember Brian as having a heart of gold. Sadly, Brian passed away in 2020. The Special Olympics Maine Equestrian Volunteer of the Year Award has been created to honor this one-of-a-kind horseman.

We invite you to nominate an incredible volunteer in your program, someone who is an example of steadfast support, thoughtful encouragement, the type of person who goes above and beyond to enrich the experience of Special Olympics Equestrian athletes in your program. To submit a nomination, please complete the online form found here.

A panel of judges will convene to review nominations and select a winner. The 2025 Special Olympics Maine Equestrian Volunteer of the Year will be presented with the award at the 2025 Special Olympics Maine Equestrian Competition, September 27, 2025 at the Skowhegan Fairgrounds.
