Description

What: Intermediate Class 2 to 3 and Combat Roll!! This clinic will help paddlers who have a reliable pool roll and regularly paddle class II rivers, to increase their skills to paddling class III rapids with a focus on dialing in a combat roll in rapids.

Travel days: Wednesday July 3rd. Class will begin promptly at 3pm July 3.  Please arrive earlier to set up & settle in.Travel home: Sunday July 7th.  

Tentative Schedule:

DAY 1 July 3 (Travel day, & pool) Arrive, clinic begins 3pm: meet and greet, set expectations, dinner. Pool: rolling focus

Day 2 July 4th (River, & fireworks) 8am breakfast. Travel to river, work on strokes, concepts, maneuvers, combat rolling. Travel upstream for a river run down the South Platte. Travel to a firework/drone show/Independence Day  festivities.

Day 3 July 5 (Lake, & river) Travel to lake, work on bracing, edging, rolling. Travel to river: Deckers optional: evening horseback sunset ride.

Day 4 July 6 (River). Travel to river: Cache La Poudre Filterplant Section. Graduation paddle: Bridges section.

Day 5 July 7 Breakfast, say goodbye, go home safely!

Lodging: There are beds provided in tiny camper campers with electricity and A/C (bring your own bedding,towels, ear plugs). Or you may camp in a large group site. RVs are welcome. Electric hookups, fire pits. coin operated showers, restrooms & water available on site.

Chow: Dinner July 3 through breakfast July 7th.  Breakfast, lunch, dinner, water & snacks provided each day. No adult beverages provided. Strict TRR alcohol limits and code of conduct adherence will be expected of everyone at this clinic.

Wanted: Expert paddling volunteers! If you participate or volunteer with TRR and are a solid paddler wanting to pair with a clinic participant and can commit and  attend one or more days, please sign up! We need you!

Extra:

We will view fireworks and have a fun July 4th.

We will go on an optional horseback sunset ride. 

Other activities are available on site: bring a bow/arrows for the free archery range, excellent hiking, mountain biking, birding, SUPing, fishing. Bring your own equipment and enjoy! There will be some free time available to you.

Eligibility Requirements:

*You must be associated with a TRR chapter and be recommended by your TRR Chapter Coordinator

* You must have a reliable pool roll.

*You must paddle at a Class 2 river level: you should be able to ferry, cross eddy lines, catch eddies, & peel out

*You should have been paddling this spring- having multiple,recent fun Class 2 or higher river experiences.

*You must be able to paddle each day and have stamina for lots of paddling.

*You must be a team player, ready to pitch in and help. Assignments will be given .

Location: Beautiful Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood, Colorado. We will be paddling in the local rivers, lakes, and swimming pool. The water will be cold, this is Colorado! Please be prepared with cold water paddling clothing, and additional clothing for twice -a-day paddling sessions.
