Brooks Brown, MD, and fellow physicians to construct Memorial Hospital in 1969. It opens with 99 beds, and Dr. Brown serves as Chairman of the Board.</p> <p>MARCH 1970</p> <p>Cathedral Rehabilitation Hospital celebrates its grand opening in Jacksonville, Fla.</p> <p>SEPTEMBER 1982<br /> Dr. Brown oversees Memorial’s acquisition of bed licenses from Cathedral Rehabilitation, establishing the area’s only hospital-based rehabilitation facility - Memorial Regional Rehabilitation Center.</p> <p>OCTOBER 1983<br /> The organization moves to the renovated north wing of the new Memorial Medical facility.</p> <p>JUNE 1993</p> <p>The first rehabilitation outpatient center is established within Memorial Healthcare Plaza.</p> <p>MAY 1994<br /> Memorial Rehabilitation Center becomes Memorial Rehabilitation Hospital and celebrations occur commemorating the opening of a freestanding, independent rehabilitation hospital.</p> <p>JUNE 1995<br /> Memorial Hospital is sold to HCA. The rehabilitation hospital is not part of the sale and is renamed Genesis Rehabilitation Hospital.</p> <p>1997<br /> The building that houses the College of Health at the University of North Florida is named J. Brooks Brown Hall in honor of Dr. Brown's contributions to healthcare in Jacksonville.</p> <p>JANUARY 1999<br /> Genesis Rehabilitation is renamed Brooks Rehabilitation as a tribute to founder J. Brooks Brown, MD.</p> <p>JANUARY 1999<br /> Researchers from the University of Florida College of Public Health & Health Professions begin to conduct research at Brooks.</p> <p>OCTOBER 2002<br /> Doug Baer becomes president and CEO after Dr. Brown retires.</p> <p>APRIL 2005<br /> Brooks Physicians Practice (now Brooks Medical Group) opens.</p> <p>MARCH 2006<br /> Brooks Rehabilitation donates $3.6 million to the College of Health at the University of North Florida. This gift, combined with a 1996 gift, results in the naming of the College as the "Brooks College of Health".</p> <p>JANUARY 2007<br /> Brooks implements the Programmatic Model – brain injury, stroke recovery, spinal cord injury, orthopedics and pediatrics.</p> <p>2007<br /> The Brooks Residency and Fellowship Program is implemented.</p> <p>FEBRUARY 2007<br /> Adaptive Sports & Recreation launches.</p> <p>JUNE 2008<br /> Brooks begins offering home health as a service with the acquisition of Home Care Advantage.</p> <p>OCTOBER 2008<br /> Brooks Brain Injury Clubhouse opens.</p> <p>JULY 2009<br /> The Brooks Administration building opens, the first certified green building on a healthcare campus in Northeast Florida.</p> <p>JANUARY 2010<br /> The Brooks Rehabilitation Clinical Research Center is established.</p> <p>JUNE 2010<br /> The first Brooks Neuro Recovery Center opens.</p> <p>MAY 2012<br /> Groundbreaking for the 115-acre Bartram Campus occurs.</p> <p>SUMMER 2013<br /> The Bartram Park campus opens, adding additional service lines to the system of care with a Skilled Nursing Facility (Bartram Crossing), an assisted living facility (Bartram Lakes) and two Green House® 12-bed memory care homes.</p> <p>2013<br /> Halifax Health | Brooks Rehabilitation - Center for Inpatient Rehabilitation, located within Halifax Health – Medical Center of Daytona Beach opens with 40 beds offering a full continuum of rehabilitation services.</p> <p>2013<br /> Brooks - University of Florida College of Public Health & Health Professions Research Collaboration establish a formal partnership.</p> <p>OCTOBER 2014<br /> The groundbreaking for University Crossing, a three-story, 111-bed skilled nursing facility occurs.</p> <p>2015<br /> Brooks’ home health services expand with the acquisition of Americare.</p> <p>MAY 2015<br /> The College of Health Sciences at Jacksonville University is named the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences in honor of the largest single gift in the history of the College and in gratitude for Brooks Rehabilitation's ongoing support totaling $4 million over several years.</p> <p>2015<br /> The Brooks Rehabilitation Aphasia Center opens.</p> <p>2016<br /> University Crossing skilled nursing facility opens.</p> <p>2016<br /> Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital achieves Magnet Certification.</p> <p>OCTOBER 2017<br /> Helen’s House, patient and family housing, opens in memory of Helen Brown, wife of J. Brooks Brown, MD.</p> <p>JANUARY 2018<br /> In January, Brooks Rehabilitation mourns the passing of founder J. Brooks Brown at age 97.</p> <p>MARCH 2018<br /> Brooks Cybernic Treatment Center launches, offering the world’s first advanced robotic treatment device - Hybrid Assisted Limb - with demonstrated results to improve a patient’s ability to walk.</p> <p>MARCH 2019<br /> The inpatient hospital celebrates 25 years of caring for patients.</p> <p>50th anniversary 2020<br /> Brooks Rehabilitation celebrates its 50th anniversary!</p> <p>2020<br /> The Brooks system of care treats more than 55,000 patients from across the globe at more than 60 locations throughout Florida.</p> <p>2020<br /> Outpatient services expand into Orlando.</p> <p>2020<br /> Brooks Rehabilitation announces the development of an additional, state-of-the-art inpatient rehabilitation hospital to meet the demands of a growing population.
